Hawke cable terminations intrinsically safe

Hawke design and produce cable terminations for some of the worlds most demanding and hostile environments. The Hawke range of glands are available in a variety of different materials.

hawke cable terminations and flameproof connectorsDesigned specifically for use in offshore deluge conditions, Hawke UNIVERSAL intrinsically safe cable terminations and glands offer dual
flameproof EExd and increased safety EExe certification and features an IP66 / 67 outer deluge seal, reversible armour clamp and a unique patented internal diaphragm seal.

Hawke have developed a new range of cable terminations and glandscomplying with the requirements of the new ATEX directive.
The 501/423 EExd IIC / EExe II glands are certified by EECS / BASEEFA for use with unarmoured and braided .

The gland and connector has two compression seals and is deluge protected by an internal 'O' ring seal, providing
increased levels of safety. The 501/423 has been shown to provide superior cable anchorage performance
compared to similar products on the market.

For many years cable terminations and glands comprising of an inner, outer and deluge seal, as well as an armour clamp, have been successfully employed. Now consideration had to be given to a cable gland without an armour clamp to give the critical cable pull-out criteria required, as well as all the other safety features associated with the product. Hawke had a standard gland with just one seal that met these requirements but the design engineers demanded something more. They required a gland that still employed the two compression seals, was deluge protected and, in the unlikely case of any one of the compression seals failing, the cable terminations gland still had to retain its pullout capabilities and flameproof protection.all hawke cable glands

The purpose of this type of gland is to form a barrier between the individual insulated conductors within
the cable, and prevent entry into the cable of the products of an explosion within the enclosure.
This cable terminations provides an effective inner seal having tape bedding or "soft" sheaths as in some
types of fire-retardant cable. The cable inner sheath seal of a conventional cable gland is replaced with a simple compound filled chamber which permits packing around individual insulated conductors. Assembly of the
gland compresses the packing material and distributes the compound evenly to effect a barrier at point of entry
into enclosure. As the compound chamber is transparent, it is possible to check that the chamber has been
effectively filled. Sealing on outer sheath armour clamping are provided in the conventional manner.

When used for increased safety EExe applications, the gland may be used with braided cable, where the braid and the outer sheath pass into the enclosure, provided the braid is suitably terminated and bonded inside the enclosure.
